Litigation and licensing, not pricing dials, drive Suno's constraints. In June 2024 Sony, UMG and Warner sued in federal court alleging mass copying of copyrighted recordings, putting commercial use of outputs under a legal cloud. Model access split that November when v4 launched in beta for Pro and Premier only, leaving free users on v3.5. The heaviest shifts followed the Warner Music settlement: November 2025 revised the terms so users 'generally are not considered the owner of the songs' they generate — stripping the IP-ownership assurance paid creators had relied on for sync and licensing — and barred free-tier tracks from monetization even retroactively. January 2026's WMG rollout then removed free-tier audio download entirely, so those tracks stay on Suno's servers, playable and shareable only, while paid tiers face announced monthly download caps. June 2026's Advanced Split stem separation across ~100 instruments is a real gain, though gated to Premier. What you can own, download and commercialize here has been redefined after the fact, dictated by rights-holder deals rather than product economics. If you build on Suno commercially, treat the licensing footing — not any quota — as the primary risk, because ownership and export rights have already moved retroactively under legal pressure.
