The headline on Windsurf is the price, but the real change is how your allowance is counted. In March 2026 it retired the old credit system for daily and weekly quotas, lifted Pro from $15 to $20 (about a third more), and added a $200 Max tier on top. Credits let you spend a balance at your own pace; quotas refill on the platform's schedule, so the same work can now hit a ceiling on a Tuesday that a credit balance would have carried through the week. Steady coding volume that starts running dry on a daily or weekly rhythm you never used to notice is the quota model at work, not heavier use. Some context makes the direction legible: Cognition, the maker of Devin, acquired Windsurf in mid-2025, and in June 2026 the IDE was rebranded to Devin Desktop — an agent-management hub built on the same Windsurf base — so pricing and product shifts trace to that ownership rather than to randomness. The useful exercise is to map the new daily and weekly limits onto a representative day of your own work: note when in the cycle you actually run dry, and whether the daily refill or the weekly ceiling bites first. Then match the tier to your cadence — intense bursts a couple of days a week behave very differently under a weekly quota than steady daily coding does, and Max at $200 exists for the heaviest sustained use. Which quota you hit first each week is the signal that tells you whether your daily pace or your total weekly volume is the real constraint.
