Tabnine removed its free plan and raised prices

What’s going on

Tabnine's squeeze on individual developers came in two deliberate steps, so a free setup that stopped working was discontinued on purpose, not disabled by accident. First, the entry-level Dev plan (around nine to twelve dollars a seat) was sunset from version 5.24.0 in early 2025, removing the mid-tier. Then on April 2, 2025 the permanent free Basic tier — the no-card plan that had even gained Claude 3.5 Sonnet and agents late in 2024 — was fully sunset, leaving no free path and nothing below thirty-nine dollars per seat. Above that now sits the Agentic Platform at fifty-nine dollars per user per month, about a fifty-one percent jump over the thirty-nine-dollar tier, with LLM consumption billed pass-through at provider cost plus five percent. Signing in and being told no free plan exists, or being pushed to a trial or a paid seat, is that sunset — there's no toggle or downgrade that brings Basic back. What's left is a build-versus-buy call: if the Code Assistant tier at thirty-nine dollars earns its keep in your workflow, take it; if not, this is the natural moment to evaluate alternatives before committing a whole team to the new floor, especially since the Agentic tier stacks unbounded variable LLM cost on top of the seat price. Already paying? A few newer constraints bite heavy users specifically — agent input is now capped so oversized context is no longer inlined, local workspace indexing was removed in favor of the remote Context Engine (a privacy and offline consideration), and a fair-use ceiling of one billion tokens a month now exists, high enough that only extreme-volume agentic use will feel it.
