Three distinct billing regimes in under eighteen months — predictability has been the recurring casualty of Devin's pricing rewrites. General availability came in December 2024 at a steep $500/month flat for teams, with no individual option. April 2025 lowered that wall dramatically with a $20 pay-as-you-go Core plan, but the fine print cut the other way: the per-ACU rate rose from $2.00 to $2.25 and concurrency was capped at ten sessions, so the cheaper entry carried worse unit economics. April 2026 then discarded the structure outright — Core and Team retired in favor of Free, Pro $20, Max $200 and a reshaped Teams plan ($80/mo minimum plus $40/seat) — and ACU billing gave way to a dollar-quota model for self-serve, removing the unit of predictability users had learned to reason about. The same overhaul moved Ask Devin Deep Mode and Devin Review to usage-based billing, so features once bundled now add to spend. Later events are minor and mixed: an official Figma MCP server replacing an unofficial one, an enterprise knowledge cap raised from 200 to 300 items. The capability may justify the price, but the pricing framework itself is the risk — anyone standardizing on Devin should expect the cost model to be rewritten again and avoid building tight budget assumptions on the current one.
